COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) -
A Seale, Alabama mother and her 7-year-old daughter were the victims of an attempted kidnapping Monday afternoon in Columbus.
The 37-year-old woman told police a man, identified as Charles Oakes, approached her vehicle at the Target at the Bradley Park Shopping Center and threatened to hurt her and her daughter if she did not agree to drive him away from the area.
The mother and daughter were not injured during the kidnapping attempt.
Oakes is 39 years old and is described as being around 6'1" tall and weighing 160 pounds with light brown or dirty blonde hair and rotten teeth. At the time of the kidnapping attempt, he was wearing a white T-shirt, khaki shorts.
Authorities tell us earlier that afternoon Oakes was spotted by a bondsman at the Extended Stay America on Rollins Way. When Oaks spotted the bondsman he ran away, dropping his handgun and illegal narcotics.
Moments later, Oakes allegedly forced his way into a vehicle with the woman and small child, described earlier. He demanded to be driven to another location where he exited the vehicle.
Oakes is considered to be armed and dangerous. If you have any information on the whereabouts of his, please call police.
