Seven demonstrators protesting against Alabama's toughest-in-the-nation immigration law were led away in handcuffs after they tried to block entry to each chamber of the Alabama Legislature, Wednesday.
Four were cuffed Wednesday outside the Senate as that chamber voted to approve changes to the immigration law. Three more were detained when they tried to block the hallway to the House chamber.
All seven were charged with third degree disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
Each originally sat outside of the entrance to the Senate chamber and linked arms. They were dragged out of the way and four were led away in cuffs. All the while about 20 protesters chanted slogans and sang spirituals.
The remaining three moved their protest to the House chamber, where they were handcuffed after blocking the hallway.
