AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -
Auburn police say a senior prank at Auburn High School involving dead fish has landed several students in trouble.
The incident happened just before midnight on Tuesday. Auburn police have already arrested one 18-year-old Auburn High School senior in the prank and more arrests are possible.
Superintendent Terry Jenkins tells News Leader 9, the group littered the outside of the school with a lot of dead fish. He says the group broke into the band room as well, Jenkins believes they tried to scatter fish in the room.
Investigators say someone called 911 to report a possible burglary at the school Tuesday night around 11:50. When police arrived, they saw one of the students take off running.
After a short chase, in which an Auburn officer suffered a minor injury, the 18-year-old senior was taken into custody and charged with a misdemeanor, for trying to elude police. Police are not releasing the teen's name or mug shot at this point as they are contacting the other students involved.
Jenkins says just two weeks ago, another prank cost the school about $5,000 when security footage revealed a group of masked people put glue in the locks on the doors and chained them at the high school. Jenkins says investigators are trying to determine if the incidents are connected.
Meanwhile, the superintendent says school leaders are taking a look at the incident and deciding if the seniors involved will be allowed to participate in their high school graduation or if they will be allowed to graduate at all.
