Are senior pranks getting worse than what we remember? Is it a right of passage that is going too far?

Alabama School of Fine Arts students were part of one two weeks ago.

Jamie Earnest said, "Our senior prank was we took every chair and desk in the school and hid them in this giant storage room. None of the classrooms had desks or chairs for a day. They all had to sit on the floor." The students say they actually got the prank approved by the school's director.

Steven Gardner said, "Other teachers had no clue, they all got upset and we almost got in trouble."

So their prank turned out to be all in fun. But sometimes they can go too far.

At Pell City High School, police charged eight seniors with criminal mischief for creating a big mess using eggs, flour, and fire extinguishers. The repairs costs around $10,000.

Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Dr Phil Hammons says he's rarely had to deal with senior pranks, but recalls one in the past.

Dr. Phil Hammonds said, "Students brought some live minnows into school. I think they threw them against the walls, crickets were released. What may seem like an innocent prank isn't. It does have consequences. So step back and think."

Dr. Hammonds says being arrested is obviously the worst punishment and sometimes seniors are not allowed to walk on graduation day.

Some other advice for seniors is just to not participate in a prank at all. That way you don't have worry about possibly getting in trouble.
