The Headland Police Department is currently investigating an assault that turned into a homicide Thursday. Authorities say 45-year-old Darren Minniefield of Bennett Street in Headland was severely beaten.
Minniefield was driven by private vehicle to Southeast Alabama Medical Center where he was dropped off. Minniefield was admitted into ICU in an unconscious state, where he later died.
Investigators are actively pursuing leads but do not have an exact location of where the incident occurred. They're asking for the public's assistance.
