Hyundai applications close before deadline

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

If you're interested in one of the new 900 Hyundai jobs, it might be too late.

The company announced it would stop accepting applications at 5pm Friday.

But some folks were turned away even before the deadline.

Hyundai officials believe there was simply a break in communication.

While they said the deadline to apply was 5p.m., the agency overseeing the process closed early.

The Alabama Industrial Development Training agency (AIDT) has been helping Hyundai field the nearly 16,000 applications they've received for production jobs.

Hyundai officials told AIDT to close the application site because they didn't need anymore applicants.

They believe there was some miscommunication involved because Hyundai didn't know AIDT closes at noon on Fridays.

WSFA 12 News tried to contact AIDT to confirm why the web site shut down 5 hours before the advertised deadline.

They have yet to respond, but it did catch one applicant off guard.

"I wish I knew. Personally right about now I'm thinking 'ok let's try the good ol' boy system and see if we know anybody who knows anybody. See if that can work.  But I understand that's been handled by AIDT. But again there's always different ropes often times. So, who knows maybe they'll repost it. Maybe they'll repost it and say you know what it unfortunately closed at 12, it should have kept going until 5," says Stephanie Davis.

Hyundai officials can't confirm if they are going to open the web site again.

They do say there are still some maintenance and salary positions available and applications are still being accepted.
