HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Hot temperatures are expected Memorial Day weekend.

With that in mind, you're urged to be careful if you plan to do any outdoor activities.

Emergency officials said to make sure you are prepared for the heat: Wear appropriate clothing, take your medicine, and drink plenty of water.

Officials said you should take precaution because your body is not adjusted to the change in temperature.

"We're going from sitting in the office all of sudden to we're going to go out here and play hard for three days, and that's where we get into trouble," said HEMSI director, Don Webster.

Here are some common signs of heat exhaustion:

  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea
  • Rapid heartbeat

If you have these symptoms, immediately get out of the heat and rest.
