Driver rescued after car plunges into neighborhood pool

COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

This is a day David Huebner will never forget.

"He was breathing; his head was still out of the water barely. It was up to his chin, he was breathing," Huebner said.

Huebner was painting the pool clubhouse at the Oakdale Bluffs subdivision when 29-year-old Michael Sliwinski veered off the road and drove his car into the pool. Huebner was one of three people that risked their lives to save the driver from drowning.

"So the three of us jumped in the water, pulled the car to the shallow end and grabbed the trunk so we pulled the car up out of the water and I was able to open the door up," Huebner said.

Witnesses said that the driver appeared to be suffering a seizure at the time of the accident.  So they called 911 on this emergency phone at the pool.

"When we got him out I noticed he had a Frito lay wrapper in his hand and when the car was floating in the pool there was a hamburger, a full uneaten hamburger that came out too so I don't know if his blood sugar dropped and that's what happened when he passed out or what," said resident Kevin Mulcahy who helped to rescue the driver.

Miraculously, no one was lounging at the pool when Sliwinski plowed through a fence and went into the water.

"It's pretty much a miracle that no one was down there and that the guy is okay from what I understand. I did see him get in the ambulance," said resident Liana Chapman.

It took crews nearly two hours to remove the Acura from the pool. The pool will be drained, cleaned and reopen in about a week.
