Governor Signs Unclaimed Property Bill

A house bill Governor Bob Riley signed May help you claim some of your property. It's called the "Unclaimed Property Enhancement Act."

The legislation makes it easier for businesses and other holders of unclaimed property to turn it over, and hopefully return it to the rightful owner. Each year, millions of dollars are turned over to the State Treasurer's Office by businesses unable to find the owners.

State Treasurer Kay Ivey praises the signing of the bill. She says the bill will make it easier for people with less than $3,000 in unclaimed property get it back.
