KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team finished the 2012 campaign ranked No. 17 in the postseason edition of the NAIA Baseball Coaches'' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday.
Despite finishing as the runner-up of the Daytona Beach bracket of the NAIA Opening Round Tournament, the Warhawks slipped two spots from a tie for 15th in the final regular season poll.
AUM tallied 211 points in the rankings and finished 38 points out of the No. 16 spot, held by Concordia (Calif.).
National Champions Tennessee Wesleyan earned the top spot in the poll, garnering 467 points and all 17 first-place votes. National runner-up Rogers State (Okla.) was second, jumping 21 spots from the final regular season poll. LSU Shreveport fell to third, while Southern States Athletic Conference foe Lee finished fourth. Oklahoma City rounded out the top five.
During the season, AUM won five games against teams from the top-25, including two against the champion Bulldogs.
The Warhawks and Flames were two of four SSAC teams ranked, a mark which tied the Sooner Athletic Conference for the national lead. Also cracking the top 25 were Faulkner at No. 13 and No. 24 Shorter. Conference member Southern Poly was among the others receiving votes.
AUM finished the 2012 season with a 38-24 overall record, including a 21-9 mark in the highly-competitive SSAC.
