The accused Southern Union Community College shooter has filed a federal complaint against Lee County's sheriff.
Thomas May, who has been housed at the Lee County Detention Center since 2011, has filed a federal lawsuit against Sheriff Jay Jones and four other officials at that jail.
May claims his rights have been violated and he was not allowed to bring a legal dictionary into the jail and he also claims that the jail tampered with his personal mail. Lee County authorities deny tampering with May's mail and May did receive the dictionary that was left for him.
May is charged in the shooting death of 62-year-old Brenda Marshall Watson of Opelika. He is also charged with the attempted murder of his estranged wife, 36-year-old Bethany May, her grandmother, 93-year-old Maude Ethell Marshall, and the couple's 4 year-old daughter last April on Southern Union's campus.
