Former Troy All-American Clint Robinson was promoted to the Kansas City Royals from Triple-A Omaha late Thursday. Robinson will join Kansas City in Pittsburgh on Friday as the Royals open a three-game series against the Pirates.
Robinson was batting .314 with eight home runs, 37 RBIs, a .418 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging percentage in 60 games for Omaha before he got promoted. The first baseman is just two seasons removed from winning the Texas League Triple Crown after batting .335 with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs for Double-A Northwest Arkansas in 2010.
"This is one of those things I've done my whole career," Robinson said in an interview with MLB.com. "I'm going to go where they tell me to go and play where they tell me to play. Those decisions aren't really up to me, so I'm going to soak up every minute of this and enjoy it. Whatever happens when Interleague Play isn't in effect anymore, I'll go with that."
The Dothan, Ala., native hit .364 with 18 doubles, 17 home runs, 71 RBIs, a .661 slugging percentage and .449 on-base percentage as a senior for the Trojans in 2007.
