Gay Marriage Bill Dies

The Alabama Legislature ended its 2004 regular session Monday night without voting on a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages in Alabama. The bill defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.

A supporter of the amendment, Representative Gerald Dial of Lineville, says he's disappointed because he believes the citizens of Alabama are mostly against gay marriages. He had said if the amendment did not pass tonight he would try again next year or in a special session later this year.
