MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

One would hope that arguments could be settled without violence.  Calm heads would prevail and resolution could come without bloodshed.  That's the way it should always be – but it's not always the way it is in the world we live in today.  The thoughtless acts of violence in the last few weeks in our area have proved that ten times over.

Where have we gone as a society when there are those amongst us that put so little a value on the life of another that they selfishly decide that is their right to strike that son, daughter, husband, wife, brother or sister from this earth?  No one has that right and we must ramp up the dialogue how to break what appears to be a growing trend.

The question that begs is where do you start?  Starting at home is one answer.  Parents must parent.  There are no guarantees in life but I will tell you a child without guidance and instruction will turn into an adult without direction or a moral compass.  Both are recipes for disaster.

Let's not let those that were killed this year die in vain by doing nothing.  We should honor and memorialize their untimely passing by dedicating whatever means necessary to prevent the next senseless act from taking place.
