TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa already has a Walk of Champions for football national championships. But by the end of this week, university trustees could approve Champions Plaza for other teams who bring home to Tuscaloosa.

If approved, Champions Plaza would sit adjacent to Sewell Thomas Baseball Stadium.

It would have tiered seating for 600 fans that includes commemorative engravings highlighting each team's history during SEC and national championship title runs.

Fans think it complements the Walk of Champions outside Bryant Denny Stadium.

"Alabama has done a fantastic job recognizing it's national championship coaches and teams of the past that have been national champions and I think it's only fitting that they extend that honor in recognizing other programs that have excellence in athletics," Tide fan Shane Haynes said.

Former Tide track runner Tony Grimes says if Alabama is about winning, any team that wins gold should be celebrated.

"I think all sports should be included as well as golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball," Grimes said.

After the women's softball team returned home with the national championship, the plan for Champions Plaza seems like a no-brainer to some.

"Football is the main sport in Tuscaloosa. I think the other sports need the recognition if the win national championships," Tide fan Helen Barnes said.
