MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Jon Beans, a reporter and host on Alabama Public Television for two decades, died Wednesday from sickle cell anemia. He was 50.
Ron Simmons, a family friend and an executive at the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, said Beans died at a Montgomery hospital.
Beans worked for Alabama Public Television from 1990 through 2011, serving as a producer, executive producer for news and public affairs director. He appeared on "For the Record," ''Capitol Journal," ''Alabama Stories" and other shows during his career on the statewide network. He also worked as an adjunct professor in communications at Alabama State University for 14 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sagusta, and their two children, Kaitlyn and Jonathan.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
