BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
The Birmingham police officer accused of arson is still in jail on a $150,000 bond. One week from today, the preliminary hearing for Curtis Thornton will be held.
At this point, Thornton is charged with one count of arson in Birmingham. It's still unknown if he could face charges in the other 13 Ensley arson cases.
Police say the fires were set in areas where Thornton lived and worked, and that they happened while he was on the clock as a west precinct officer. Police have also noticed the fires stopped once Thornton was arrested.
Thornton's attorney, Brett Hamock, says he can't talk about those connections until he sees the state's evidence at next week's hearing.
