Dr. Lawrence Singer of DC Smiles and Novasmiles has created the Singer-Domanski Resin MMF/Reimplantation Device; a novel oral surgery/dental device that repairs broken jaws and teeth while providing a much safer and more comfortable experience for the patient during the process. In contrast to the metal (Erich) arch bars and maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) screws currently used to stabilize/reduce jaw fractures, Dr. Singer’s and Domanski’s patent-pending device includes a dental arch bar that is easier to use and decreases surgery time. In addition, this device often allows the patient who has previously been put under general anesthesia to receive treatment under local anesthesia or no anesthesia at all. For surgeons, this device is much safer than that used in conventional systems.

Because the resin bars are directly bonded to the tooth enamel, they can be placed perfectly on each tooth and thus no surgery is required. This method can lessen the patient’s healing time and creates less of a chance of infection due to its non-invasive approach. Discomfort is also significantly decreased during use as well as removal compared to arch bars or screws Waller Griffith suffered from a fractured jaw and recently received the S/D splint device from Dr. Singer. “I was extremely impressed with the entire procedure,” states Griffith. “ After seeing the medieval-looking contraptions that have traditionally been used for jaw fractures, I was very nervous, but Dr. Singer's treatment was painless, and I am now on the mend!”

About Dr. Singer

Dr. Singer holds a doctor of medical dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine, one of eight Ivy League Universities. He also holds the title of Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the George Washington University Hospital. His work at the hospital includes treating facial trauma patients who have broken their jaws and teeth, treating medically compromised patients under general anesthesia in the operating room, and providing emergency dental care to patients admitted to the hospital. Dr. Singer works very closely with members of the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT: ear, nose and throat). He instructs ENT, emergency residents, trauma residents and medical students in the treatment of moxillomandibular trauma and disease.
