ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The upside down star associated with Satanism, the 6-6-6, and what's described as "gang" graffiti.

Imagine driving up to a church and finding all of that on the building, a van, a garbage dumpster and a storage building.

Members of the United Methodist-affiliated Christ Central Church in Rainbow City don't have to imagine it.

"Devastation, my heart was broken, just to drive up and see the messages, the hurtful and hateful messages, on the front of the church," Pastor Sherri Reynolds said.

Volunteers, including the fire department, chipped in to scrub the church and the van of the graffiti, before it had a chance to become permanent and before church members could see it Sunday morning.

But traces of it are still there, on the brick, and on scratched up portions of the van. But Reynolds it doesn't have to stay on her heart, or her member's hearts, the same way.

She wants the vandals to know she is ready to forgive them.

"I believe that whoever did this, is hurting, and needs God's love and needs a community of faith like Christ Central Church. Whoever did this, we want to reach out to them with God's love," Reynolds said.

Rainbow City Police announced Monday afternoon that they had arrested two suspects in the case. Check back to this story for updates as they become available.
