ST. GABRIEL, LA (WAFB) -
Two people were
shot during a violent apartment break-in Monday night, but police made two
arrests, partially thanks to what they're calling bad luck for the suspects.
"They
had some bad luck...good luck for us - bad luck for them," said St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin
Ambeau. "They started knocking
on doors trying to get jumper cables, they hid their clothes - we
found them. My guys did a good job."
Ambeau
identified the suspects as Keith Joseph, 32, of Baton Rouge and Gabriel King, 34,
of Laplace.
The suspects are
accused of targeting Joseph's ex-girlfriend. Police say the suspects ended up
shooting two men who lived at the apartment complex in the 3600 block of Bank
Drive in St. Gabriel a little before 9:30 p.m. Monday night.
Investigators
said the suspects eventually kicked the door open and fired off several more
rounds. The victim's are the woman's boyfriend and his roommate.
One victim was
hit in the neck and the other in the leg. Both were taken to the hospital
and are expected to survive.
Police said a
gun believed to be used in the shooting was found behind a dumpster and what
they think was the suspects' clothing was discovered behind an apartment at the
complex.
The chief said
crimes of this sort are not common in St. Gabriel. He said he can't remember a
shooting in the area in the past six years or so and that he takes any crime
like this personally.
