MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The head of the Alabama State Council on the Arts is receiving an award for his work in folk and traditional arts.
Council executive director Albert B. Head is among nine recipients of this year's NEA National Heritage Fellowships.
Head is receiving the Bess Lomax Hawes NEA National Heritage Fellowship award. It recognizes someone who's made a significant contribution to preserving and building awareness of cultural heritage.
Head has started folk arts programs in Alabama, Florida and Louisiana.
The honor includes an award of $25,000.
