MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

It was a scary situation for the folks inside BJ's Famous Hotdogs restaurant Thursday afternoon as a motorcycle crashed through the front of the building.

The incident happened around noon at the eatery, connected to the Citgo gas station on Day Street. That's just across the street from the entrance to Maxwell Air Force Base.

The front wheel of the motorcycle could be seen on an internal security camera just outside the business. Moments later, customers dining inside were jolted by the crash as the biker, unidentified, jumped the curb and crashed through a plate glass window.

The Montgomery Police Department said a preliminary investigation found that the Kawasaki sportbike slipped into gear and the driver subsequently crashed through the building.

The biker crashed into some tables and chairs before coming to rest on the floor. Employees, customers and people from outside the store rushed to help the biker.

The biker declined to be interviewed on camera. Medics treated the man on the scene for cuts and bruises, but it did not appear that his injuries were serious.

The cost of the damage was not immediately known.
