Phenix City is getting a new hotel on the riverfront, separate from the Brickyard Project. City manager Wallace Hunter says negotiations and finances are being finalized, but a Courtyard Marriott will be built next to the 14th Street pedestrian bridge in the area. That's the same area as the future Troy University School of Business facility.
Hunter says the new hotel is meant to expand the community and bring more business into the area. "One of our dreams is to make sure our kids will have a place to come back to, and development where people can stay. Across the street from the hotel is a site, a building that will be torn down for a parking garage."
Hunter also says that the hotel is slated to be five floors with a conference area. Construction may begin at the end of this year.
