HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
A local organization is gearing up to send their quarterly bulk packages, known as Fun Packs, to Afghanistan for Alabama troops and others who serve our country.
The non-profit group, A Smile For Troops, gathered Wednesday afternoon at Rivertree Church in Hampton Cove to create boxes filled with games, fruit drinks and smores kits that they are sending out Wednesday night.
Kiley Kinzer-Henry, Director for A Smile For Troops, said these gifts are to remind troops of being back home and for what they can look forward to when they do come back.
"We just want people to understand that we want to do this to help our soldiers, because there are so many who don't get anything over there," she said.
A Smile For Troops delivers a monthly package to groups of troops in Afghanistan, but they are not filled in bulk like their quarterly packages they send once a season. This delivery will donate about 200 packages to the soldiers on the ground overseas.
