CUSSETTA , AL (WSFA)- A 22-year old-man is dead after three deputies responded to an incident in Northeast Lee County.
According to Lee County Sheriff, Jay Jones, the incident happened when officers responded to a call about a man armed on County Road 279 around 6:35 this morning.
Three deputies entered the home and instructed the man, identified as Jonathan Stearns, to drop his weapon. After Sterns refused officers fired at Stearns hitting him in the chest and leg.
Sterns was transported to Columbus Medical Center and was pronounced dead.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Lee County Sheriff's office continue to investigate.
