U.S. Representative Martha Roby delivered the following statement after Airbus formally announced that it has chosen Alabama as the location for its new production facility. The Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile will assemble the A319, A320, and A321 commercial aircraft and will serve as the company's first U.S.-based production facility.
"I am pleased to learn of the official announcement from Airbus confirming that the company will build a major manufacturing facility in Alabama.
"This is tremendous news for our state and the Gulf Coast region as Airbus will partner with U.S. suppliers to build commercial airliners. The production facility will create new jobs and will likely require a network of subcontractors that will extend throughout south Alabama. Our state and the aerospace industry have enjoyed a lengthy history together and it is especially good to see this tradition continue.
"I stand ready to support this major development in any way that I can."
