MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Just because cities like Montgomery, Prattville and Wetumpka prohibit firework use doesn't mean people aren't still buying them.
"She wants to see them," says James Morrison.
Morrison is a Montgomery resident--doing it the right way.
"You can't shoot them in city limits, so we leave Montgomery and go shoot them outside city limits...take my daughter out," he says.
So is Dane Harris--who lives just outside Wetumpka.
"Whatever the kids like. We're just looking for whatever the kids like. Anything that's loud, big and goes boom."
But what happens if that boom happens inside the city?
In Montgomery it could cost you.
"Those fireworks would be confiscated and they could face a fine up to $500 dollars," says Regina Duckett with the Montgomery Police Department.
She says you must have a permit to use fireworks and that they're typically only given for big shows downtown or at Maxwell Air Force base.
Another problem she's noticed, fireworks are often mistaken for gun shots.
"We do see an increase in those types of calls," adds Duckett.
Either way, there are consequences for both.
"If it's a firework, they will be confiscated. You won't get those returned back to you. If it's a firearm, unfortunately, you will go to jail."
