MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
On Wednesday, July 4, at approximately 7 p.m. Montgomery Police and Fire Medics responded to the 3500 block of Dee Drive in reference to a report of a subject shot.
Officers located the victim, Glenndy Belle Smith, 46, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Smith was transported to Baptist South Hospital, where she later was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation indicates that Smith and her boyfriend, Gyanendra Willie Norman, had been involved in a verbal altercation that escalated.
During the evening hours of July 4, Norman, 47, was taken into custody and charged with murder. He was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a $75,000 bond.
This investigation is continuing, and no further information is available at this time.
This is Montgomery's 13th homicide of 2012. This is the second death investigation of the July 4th holiday for the Montgomery Police Department.
Earlier in the day, investigators were called to a home in the 2000 block of Commodore Street off Carter Hill Road where a 12-year-old boy was fatally wounded.
That case, while still under investigation, appears to be accidental.
