Emergency crews battled a brush fire on Townsend Road in Hazel Green.

The fire broke out just before 8 a.m. Crews said the fire originated from a Thursday brush fire.

Officials said the fire started after three kids set off fireworks in the field. The fire was extinguished but it rekindled after dirt was moved around to keep it from spreading. The dirt contained embers which caught, starting the fire.

Meridianville and Hazel Green responded to the fire. It was contained quickly and crews worked to extinguish hot spots for about an hour.

Officials said they plan to keep an eye on the location in case it rekindles again. They said they plan to put out a portable water gun that will periodically drench the area.
