New safety guidelines for baby monitor cords

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association are warning parents about the dangers posed by the cords found on many commonly used baby monitors.

Since 2002, the CPSC has received notice about the injuries of three children and the death of seven children who were strangled by baby monitor cords.

Parents are urged to keep these devices and cords out of their child's crib or sleeping area and place them at least three feet away from those areas.

Consumers can order warning labels for the monitors if the device doesn't have one.  Contact the manufacturer of the monitor for details on how to obtain the warning label.
