Unsolicited, prerecorded telemarketing calls, or robocalls, are a big annoyance to consumers and they are also illegal. If you receive a robocall and want to know what to do, the FTC has issued tips on how to deal with robocalls.
If you answer your phone and hear an unwanted, prerecorded message, hang up. Do not press 1 to get an operator or press any number to get off the caller's list. The FTC says that could lead to more robocalls. Report the call and the phone number to the FTC at 1-877-382-4357.
You can also ask your phone service provider to block the number, but be aware that some companies charge a fee for that service.
