BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -
A North Alabama soldier was severely injured in Afghanistan after an IED explosion.
Private First Class Corey Garmon of Boaz had to have his left leg amputated below the knee. He also suffered a broken arm and leg, soft tissue damage to the right arm and his right eye was bruised to the cornea.
Family members said Garmon was responsive and able to lift his hand. Doctors also said that they would not have to amputate parts of his right leg after his circulation improved.
He is expected to be moved to Germany soon for further treatment.
Family and friends set up a Facebook group to share information and show support for Garmon.
