TALIAFERRO COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -
Two Fort Benning soldiers were killed in a traffic accident in East Georgia.
The names of the soldiers are Sgt. Martin Bowman, a native of Columbia, SC, and Spc. Maritza Padillagomez, a native of Round Lake Beach, IL. Both were part of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.
Georgia State Patrol say the soldiers were traveling on interstate 20 near Augusta, when their Ford Fusion hydroplaned and crossed the median. The accident happened at about 6 p.m. Friday July 13 in Taliaferro County.
Troopers say the car hit a pickup truck. Both soldiers were killed instantly. Four other people were hurt in the crash but are expected to survive.
