MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Officials with Auburn University Montgomery say the campus has been given the all-clear after an evacuation of buildings in the quad following a gas leak.
A contractor who was working on lighting accidentally struck a gas line. Authorities moved to clear the area quickly as a safety precaution, even sending out campus alerts via text message and phone.
The evacuation remained in effect until crews from AlaGasCo were able to make repairs and clear the problem.
The campus returned to normal about an hour to an hour and a half after the incident.
