Shelby county amusement park claimed to be opening in a year

COLUMBIANA, AL (WBRC) -

885 acres of farmland turned into an amusement park? Tiffany Sturdivant said by Memorial Day next year, it will be in what is currently an open field in Shelby County. She said it will feature thrill rides in the new Thomas Farm Amusement Park.

"It will be a hyper thrill ride park along with 15 stages. Broadway shows, comedy shows. Then the Selma property is going to be the water park along with the 15 stages," said Sturdivant.

She hasn't actually been able to purchase the property yet. She said she's been working with the owner of the land, Buchanan Henson, for months now.

"We're doing a due diligence on the property and basically we've been trying to advertise right now to see is it feasible to do another amusement park," said Sturdivant.

There's a Facebook page and even a website. It advertises when the park will open, the costs and even a luxury car raffle. We asked Sturdivant about the raffle, since the park hasn't even broken ground yet. She said it's not going to happen and she's been trying to take it off the website.

"You can't even put no information in it. I promise you. You can go back and try it but it won't even come up," said Sturdivant.

We tried donating on the site and it does come up asking you to buy a ticket through a PayPal account. This has raised eyebrows with Shelby County Sheriff's Office. Captain Ken Burchfield said they're looking into the entire operation to see if there's any wrong doing. So far, it appears no one has donated any money.

Still, Sturdivant is confident rides will be on the property next year. Though she said they're still not sure how many rides will be operational on opening day.

On the website there are scheduled events in August and rides are said to be on the property in October. Sturdivant said those rides will most likely be a soft opening and will be carnival like rides. As for when she plans to close on the land deal, she says Buchanan is out of the country and won't be back for a few weeks. Until then she said she's working with investors.
