Shepard's Pie: A London Delight

This dish developed in the United Kingdom back in the 1800s as a way for the lower income to use left over beef and cheap potatoes to make a meal.  One should note that it was often called 'cottage pie' because of the modest homes or cottages of the rural workers.  Only Shepard pie has beef.  Cottage pie is mainly mutton.

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 pound hamburger meat
1 diced green pepper
1 small onion diced
1 cup shredded cheddar
mashed potatoes

PREPARATION:
Brown meat with pepper and onion.  Add salt and pepper to taste.

Make your mashed potatoes and line a pie pan with them all the way up the sides.

Put the meat mixture on top of potatoes and frost with more mashed potatoes.

Sprinkle with cheeses and bake in oven until cheese melts.
