LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) – The Arkansas State Police officer who pulled over then ASU running back Michael Dyer has been fired by the ASP.
According to ASP Public Information Officer Bill Sadler, Arkansas State Police Trooper Royce Denny pulled over two vehicles on March 10, one operated by Dyer and another operated by Ronnie Wright.
Denney cited both men for speeding 96 mph in a 70 mph zone, but on dash cam video he poured out a bag of marijuana and never cited Dyer for a gun found in his possession.
On Sunday July 29, Arkansas State Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn dismissed junior running back Michael Dyer from the team for violating team rules. The university issued a statement that night: "I am truly disappointed that it didn't work out here at ASU for Mike," said Malzahn. "I wish Mike nothing but the best in the future."
The statement also read, "The University respects and protects the privacy rights of its student-athletes and has no further comment."
Dyer and Wright's tickets are on file at the White County District Court.
