Over half of Mississippi's school districts have chosen an abstinence approach to sex education starting this the State Department of Education released a list Friday showing 81 districts that have chosen that approach.
Seventy one districts have chosen the abstinence plus; a word on contraception without any demonstration of condoms.
Three districts chose a split approach; abstinence only for younger grades and abstinence plus for older grades.
Mississippi has had the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in the nation.
A 2011 state law requires school districts to teach some sort of sex education starting this academic year.
Parents must give permission for their children to take the classes.
