MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Shannon Ferrai says thieves, posing as ADT security sales reps, are breaking into homes in broad daylight in and around Copperfield Drive in Montgomery.
"My side window had been busted in and they left through the side door. They're knocking on doors, they look suspicious. They don't look like they are really affiliated with ADT," Ferrai said.
She says suspected robbers broke into her home Friday, which was the first move-in day to her new home. Luckily, Ferrai says they didn't get anything because there were no valuables inside the house yet, but she says they did something really strange.
"They dump a whole container of fish food into the aquarium," Ferrai said.
Ferrai says both of her next door neighbors were not so luckily.
"The gentleman beside me had $17,000 worth of property stolen and so did the neighbor to the right of me," Ferrai said.
Chris Cooley has lived in the Copperfield neighborhood for seven years.
"Almost every other day we are hearing of someone getting hit," Cooley said.
Cooley says he's never seen such orchestrated criminal activity. He says these fake security reps are a woman and two men driving a white van. He says they came to his house as well.
"She was very adamant about coming into the house and I was very adamant about her not coming into the house," Cooley said.
And it's neighbors like Cooley and Ferrai who are on alert and ready to defend their homes.
"I will be getting a dog and I am armed and I will do what I have to do protect my family," Ferrai said.
The neighbors I spoke with say ADT officials say these are fake representatives who are not affiliated with the company. Police are urging residents to report suspicious people and activity.
Residents say ADT officials did confirm these are fake representatives who are not affiliated with the company.
Montgomery Police have made an arrest of a juvenile that investigators believe committed one burglary in that area. The remaining burglaries are under investigation. If you can have any information, please call Crimestoppers at 215-STOP.
