MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman has filed his thoughts on how much time he believes he should spend in prison.
His attorney argues that the current sentence of 88 months is extreme given the fact that a jury only convicted him on seven of 32 counts.
Attorney Susan James also cites Siegelman's charitable works and commitments to public service as reasons for a reduced sentence.
The filing doesn't make a finite recommendation, but it does mention how there is justification for at least a supervised release and no jail time.
Siegelman already served nine months in prison and will get credit for time served.
In a recent interview on the Fox Business Network, Siegelman apologized to Alabamians for the embarrassment he's brought to the state. However, he did not go as far as to admit any guilt.
