Family waits for missing woman's return

DALLAS COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -

A frantic search is underway to find a missing Dallas County woman.

89-year-old Adeline George was last seen sleeping on her couch Tuesday evening.

As authorities comb the Beloit community just outside of Selma, family members say they're out of leads.

A helicopter hovers above the house on County Road 865 as loved ones simply watch the search for George go on around them.

"I hope she's alright," says George's daughter Loretta Thomas.

Dallas County Sheriff's deputies, Alabama State Troopers, and volunteer fire fighters tromped through the woods, talked to nearby residents and circled a 7-mile radius of George's home.

"I had fed her and given her her medications and she was sitting on the couch sleeping," says George's husband, Alex.

He remembers putting his wife down for a nap. He stepped outside to feed his dogs and came inside 30 minutes later.

"I went in there and opened the door and looked on the couch and she wasn't on there," he says.

Alex says since his wife disappeared, "I haven't slept. I can't shut my eyes."

When family members heard the news, they rushed to Alex's side.

Loretta Thomas was one of the first to get there. The only thing she could think--her mother was in the woods.

"I got upset because I didn't want her out there in the dark, too, because she has Dementia."

Family members believe Adeline George's Alzheimer's disease may have led to her disappearance. They say she often walked up the street where she and Alex lived, but always came back.

With no way of knowing where she is, loved ones say there's only one thing they can do.

"Sit and wait and pray and hope that the Lord let's somebody find her," says Thomas.

If you have any information you're asked to call the Dallas County Sheriff's office at 334-874-2530.
