MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
The Montgomery Clean City Commission has just released its 2012 litter index rating for the city. It found that overall, the city is doing well, but there are still parts of the city that need a lot of work.
The study also found that Montgomery has improved its litter rating from last year. The 2012 liter rating is 1.49, with 1 being almost no litter and 4 being an illegal dump.
They judge areas in each council district, neighborhoods, commercial property, construction sites and large sections of roads.
Last year, Montgomery got a 1.58, so the city is moving towards a no litter ranking. The Montgomery Clean City Commission says they attribute that progress to more neighborhoods and businesses taking ownership of their properties, taking pride in the streets and making sure they frequently pick up trash around their area.
The areas that do not have clear owners are the areas that often pile up with litter.
The litter index is released every year by the Keep America Beautiful Committee. It is used in cities and towns across the nation.
