BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
The body of a soldier from Birmingham has been returned home.
21-year-old Army Pfc. Julian L. Colvin and 24-year-old Sgt. Richard L. Berry, from Scottsdale, Arizona were killed by an improvised explosive device while on a dismounted patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan on Sunday. Colvin's body was returned to Birmingham on Thursday morning at the National Guard side of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport. He received a full military reception.
Colvin's funeral will be held Saturday, August 4th at 10 a.m. at 6th Avenue Baptist Church and will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery.
Colvin joined the Army on March 9, 2011 as a combat engineer. He attended training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and joined the 82nd Airborne Division in July 2011 after finishing U.S. Army Airborne School. He was assigned to the 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Friends and family wait at the airport to receive Colvin's body.
Many showed respect to the fallen hero.
