MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
WSFA 12 News viewers have been asking about an apparent shooting Sunday evening at Eastdale Mall, but Montgomery police say no shots were fired. Instead, officers broke up a scuffle and arrested two individuals.
Authorities say units responded to a physical altercation involving several teens around 8:45pm Sunday. Two of the suspects, 18-year-old Christopher Williams and a 17-year-old juvenile, were taken into custody.
Williams was charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct and was taken to the Montgomery City Jail. The juvenile was released into his parents' custody.
The scuffle is said to have lasted about 30 seconds. Private security broke up the altercation and dispersed the teens. Spokespersons for Eastdale Mall said it appears the scuffle was staged as an incident so the suspects could post it on YouTube. WSFA 12 News confirmed that a video regarding the incident was later posted to YouTube.
Officials say sounds that mimicked gunfire were actually the sounds of one person hitting a large pane of glass. The glass made a loud popping sound as it fractured and broke.
