ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Police said an 11-foot-long python escaped from a home in Albertville.

Officers said the animal escaped from a home in the area of Head Street and Section Line Road Sunday evening.

The snake's owner, Brittany Nichols, thinks someone stole the snake, but because it's not known, police are actively searching all around the home for the Burmese Python.

Nichols she is very sad that her snake, named Rogue, is on the loose.

"I stayed up until five this morning just wondering where she was and if she was ok," she said.

Nichols said the snake is not dangerous to people.

"Everybody's worried, I guess, if she's going to eat you.  She's not.  She's going to be more scared of you than you are going to be of it," said Nichols.

But Albertville Police said they don't think there are and dangers there other than maybe to other neighborhood pets.

Nichols' problems may go a little farther than a lost pet.  The city of Albertville has an ordinance requiring residents with snakes as pets to register them if they are over six feet long.

"But as I've been informed this morning, I probably should have had her registered.  In the three weeks I've been back, that should have been first priority. So my bad, guys," she said.

Officers were back in the neighborhood Monday morning searching for the snake.

Anyone who may come in contact with the python should not approach it but rather call the Albertville Police Department immediately.
