DULUTH, Ga. (AP) - An Indianapolis man has become the youngest angler to win the Forrest Wood Cup, described as the world championship of bass fishing.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports (http://bit.ly/RMRphw) that 21-year-old Jacob Wheeler won the event and hoisted the cup in The Arena at Gwinnett Center on Sunday after four days of fishing on Lake Lanier. He earned $500,000.
Wheeler's five bass worth 11 pounds, 15 ounces gave him a total 4-day weight of 60 pounds, 1 ounce.
Scott Canterbury of Springville, Ala., posted a total weight of 52 pounds, 12 ounces to take second place, winning $100,000.
This year's event was held on Lake Lanier, with the fish weighed each evening in The Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Next year's event will be held in the Shreveport-Bossier area of Louisiana.
