MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - More than five years have passed since a grand jury indicted former Secretary of State Nancy Worley, and she's still waiting to find out when she will be tried and on what charges.
The prominent Democrat could face simple misdemeanor charges or more serious felony charges over campaign material she sent 5 of her employees in 2006. The decision is up to the all-Republican Alabama Supreme Court.
The court is considering whether to keep or toss out five felony charges against her and leave only misdemeanors. The court has had Worley's appeal nearly 11 months.
Worley and Attorney General Luther Strange, who's prosecuting the case, both say they are just waiting for the court to rule.
