GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Alabama All-American diver Aaron Fleshner claimed his first national championship Tuesday when he outscored the field in the 1-meter springboard event by more than 50 points to take top honors at the AT&T National Championships being held in Greensboro, N.C. this week.
A member of the 2011 USA World Championship and World University Games teams, Fleshner tallied 465.50 points off the 1-meter, putting him 53.6 points ahead of Michael Hixon's second-place score of 411.90. It marked Fleshner's first national title after taking second off the 1-meter at the 2011 USA World Championship Trials.
"It was an amazing performance," UA diving coach Pat Greenwell said. "Aaron ripped through his list and really did a great job throughout. We're very proud of him and what he's accomplished."
Fleshner finished as high as third at the NCAA Championships during his 2007-10 Alabama career, while also earning six All-American honors and being named the 2009 Southeastern Conference Diver of the Year. He is currently living and training in Tuscaloosa after completing his engineering degree at the Capstone last summer.
