HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Monday was a day of firsts for the Huntsville City School System. It was the first day of school and the first day that all the teachers and students used their new laptops.
The digital switch received good reviews from students at Huntsville Middle School, like 6th grader Brittany Okweye.
"The laptops are really good," Okweye said. "They are really handy because our teachers showed us the textbooks we would be using and it's a lot better with the laptops and they are easy to use."
Teachers like Karen Smith said converting to computers is all about comfort.
"I think it's really exciting," Smith said. "I was a nervous wreck over the weekend and I understand there will be things we don't think about that will come up, but I'm really excited because the kids are so comfortable with the technology that we need to be comfortable too."
Students said trading textbooks for technology came with some issues.
"It was frustrating not being able to get into programs and not understanding how to log into stuff," said 8th grader Haley Catrett.
"The only problem I had was getting into one of the teacher's websites," said fellow 8th grader Halley Jolly. "I don't really think anything will go as bad as it did today with all the wireless stuff because I think they'll get it fixed."
