Protest immigration law in Tuscaloosa

Posted: Updated:

A group of protesters gathered at the federal courthouse in Tuscaloosa to express their opposition to Alabama's tough immigration law.

The Web site al.com reported the demonstrators on Monday included several undocumented Hispanic immigrants, who called Alabama's law an injustice to immigrants in the state.

The protest came at about the same time the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a lower court to block enforcement of a section of Alabama's immigration law that required schools to collect data about the immigration status of students.

The protesters said they came to Tuscaloosa on a tour bus as part of a nationwide protest called "No Papers, No Fear."

Tuscaloosa police ordered the protesters to leave the federal building because they did not have a permit to demonstrate in the area.
